Lednice – Valtice Area – UNESCO Site

An extensive Baroque complex built for the Liechtenstein family by renowned architects, the area is spread between the small towns of Lednice and Valtice, situated southeast of Brno, and covers 250 square kilometers. The complex includes various chateau buildings, gardens, ponds, woods, and decorative sculptures from various periods.
Valtice Chateau, once the residence of princes, is surrounded by a breathtaking natural park sprinkled with many Romantic structures, rare trees, and greenhouses with tropical plants. Historical personalities including Emperor Franz Joseph I and his wife Empress “Sisi” as well as Chancellor Metternich once visited the chateau.
Lednice Chateau was rebuilt in the mid-19th century as a summer palace in English Gothic style. It originated as a Gothic fort in 1222. On the premises is an artificial Baroque cave, a Turkish tower, a greenhouse, a romantic artificial ruin called John’s Castle, and the Apollo Temple, a small, romantic chateau. The extensive garden includes a large pond and a Chinese pavilion.

Valtice Chateau – The National Wine Centre

The National Wine Center is situated on the historical premises of Valtice Chateau. It is situated in a beautiful location called “the pearl of South Moravia” – the Lednice – Valtice Cultural Landscape, listed in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage index. The “Wine Salon of the Czech Republic” is the most prestigious wine competition in the Czech Republic. Only wines made from grapes grown in the Czech Republic can be entered into the competition. Then the wine samples are assessed by a committee of winetasters, who awards the best 100 wines the right to put the words “Salon vín České Republiky” (“Wine Salon of the Czech Republic”) on their label. You can choose different wine tasting programs as you explore the wine cellars (wine tasting is not included in the price).
