Tour Details

You can visit the following sights on the way to/from Prague.

Pilsen and Pilsner Urquell Brewery

Since it was founded in 1295, Pilsen has been a busy trade center, located at the crossroads of two important trade routes that link the Czech lands with the German cities of Nuremberg and Regensburg. Beer has a long tradition in Pilsen, dating back to 1307. You can visit the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, a tour that is a must for beer fans. The light “lager beer” was “born” in Pilsen (Plzeň in Czech) in 1842 and became known as Pilsner Urquell. The Pilsner beer was so different from other types of beer at that time so it became a new type of beer simply called “Pilsner” or “Pils”. Nowadays, 70% of all beers around the world are of the Pilsner type. During the tour of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, you have the chance to taste golden Pilsner Urquell beer. After the tour, you can enjoy a typical Czech meal in the Pilsner Urquell Brewery restaurant. You will also have the opportunity to appreciate sights in the Old Town of Pilsen, where St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral boasts a 120-meter high tower, the highest in the country. The Moorish Revival Great Synagogue is the second largest in Europe.

Karlstejn Castle and/or Crystal Glassworks

Karlstejn Castle is one of the most famous castles in the Czech Republic. It looms over a picturesque village with a steep, narrow road leading to the Gothic lover’s paradise. The imposing structure, built for Bohemian King and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1348, housed the crown jewels of the Holy Roman Empire until 1420. Charles IV also kept his own personal relics and the Bohemian royal insignia here.

The glassworks manufactures an extensive range of cut 24% leaded crystal in a wide variety of decorations from the simple to extremely complex and laborious decorations, with gilt, hand painting, and sandblasting. The company was chosen for the production and supply of official state gifts due to the very high quality of its products and services. After the excursion, you can buy crystals in the factory shop for very reasonable prices. The glassworks is closed in the afternoon on working days and on weekends. Surcharge for glassworks extension: 500 CZK.
