Cesky Krumlov & Revolving Theatre - Prague to Cesky Krumlov
Day Trip from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, No. 1 UNESCO Site after Prague
The city of Cesky Krumlov in the Southwest of the Czech Republic has preserved its medieval center as no other town in the region. For this reason it entered the UNESCO register of monuments of world significance in 1992. If you have time on your visit to the Czech Republic for only one excursion, consider going to Cesky Krumlov. One of Bohemia´s prettiest towns, Krumlov is a living gallery of elegant Renaissance-era buildings housing charming cafes, pubs, restaurants, shops, and galleries.
Revolving Theatre – Opera in Cesky Krumlov (June – September)
For more than a half of century, the revolving theatre in Český Krumlov has been a significant and world’s unique representative of a natural outdoor theatre with an original design and utilisation of the scenic space. The action set – stage consists of the vast space of the surrounding chateau park allowing to enjoy the uniqueness of the wonderful scenery of the chateau garden with hundreds years old trees, which create an inimitable atmosphere for the theatrical stories.
In the case of musical production – opera and ballet performances, the combination of wonderful music, dance aesthetics and the surrounding nature is an extraordinary emotive experience. The principle of revolving auditorium set in the chateau forest park with the Bellarie summer house in the Rococo style, is a big asset not disposed of even by the very famous open-air scenes, like the lake stage in Bregenz, the arena in Verona or the Mediterranean Greek amphitheatres. The theatre operates from June to September; shows start at 9:30 p.m.
If you would like to see this spectaculous show we recommend to start from Prague at 3 p.m. After arriving in Cesky Krumlov, we will explore the Old Town and Krumlov Castle (without interiors), enjoy dinner at the Vltava River, see an opera at the Revolving Theatre and then we will drive you back to Prague. See the revolving theatre and book tickets (opens in a new window). Performences start as late as 9:30 p.m. and last 2-2,5 hours (return to Prague at around 2 a.m.!).
